Daniel Franz

October 2, 2014

Purdue sophomore Daniel Franz has a lot on his plate – in between working in the Office of University Sustainability, mentoring freshmen in the Honors College, and performing in Purdue’s orchestra, he manages to work towards a degree in Environmental and Ecological Engineering. On top of all this, he also serves as an RA in Tarkington Hall.

Daniel knew Purdue was the right choice for him because it possessed both a renowned engineering school and a strong music program. During his freshman year, Daniel got involved very quickly; in addition to being a student in the Honors College, he was also a member of band, orchestra, Convocations Voice Network, and Shreve Club’s executive board. One of his favorite aspects of the Honors College is the fact that everyone lives together as a community during their first year. For Daniel, living in Shreve the past two semesters provided the opportunity for many great experiences.

As a sophomore, Daniel is now well adjusted to the college lifestyle. Through his studies, he has found his true passion: community building. Looking toward the future, Daniel hopes to improve the communities around him through sustainability. When asked about specific future plans, however, he stated that the only long-term goal he has right now is simply to graduate. Short-term goals that Daniel has set for himself include traveling to Spain with the orchestra this March during Spring break.

Daniel urges freshmen on campus to “Get involved! Try out every club you can.” We can't help but agree. Daniel has definitely taken this piece of advice to heart during his first three semesters at Purdue. By being involved in such a wide range of campus activities, Daniel has enhanced his life tremendously as a college student. Daniel sums up his Purdue experiences in three words: fun-filled, intensive, and wonderful.
